Not many, but some vessels use D-Type Joining Shackles to connect the anchor chain sections. However, D-Type Joining Shackles require special chain arrangements ending with Enlarged Links (EL) and End Links (E) on both ends. Hence, these arrangements must be ordered a few months before the desired delivery date.
